I gotta admit, I REALLY love Chalo’s Work, i follow this comic since 2009, art speaking this page is just awesome, the randal, the girls are wonderfull, jealous taffy is awesome, but to me, it looked prejudicial, since it was so steriotyped, a chubby with a flat girl along with the one with issues at home playing RPG? (i dont know about Chalo’s country, but here that is almost a cliche as to the niche that plays RPG in general)

So something as vague as a simple body type playing a specific genre of game is worthy of calling out stereotypes?
Especially two that are almost always in contradiction with each other. “Chubby” and “flat-chested”. Let’s see, it’s almost like that only leaves the middle-ground of an attractively slim yet still busty girl to play. Maybe one with bright pink hair, two giant floppy ears, perhaps someone that needs glasses to read small print.

They way they weed out what they would deem as a genetic “weak link” is to socially ostracise the party, thus making it all the more difficult for them to find their place in the community. I’ve got to admit it: this is a step backward in the series. The panda girl as I remember her from older depictions was supposed to be fat. Though, curvaceous, there’s a huge gap between curvaceous and “chubby”. And this one is the former. That’s bad. It looks like drawing a fat character is way too much for this guy to tolerate. “Older depictions” like… The second panel of Dungeons & Dames? Her position was slouched, so her belly would be more prominent. Page 32 of Breasts are the Best? It might be the chibi-fied appearance of it, but her limbs are actually thinner there than they are here.

Look at her next to Pepper. Any given point of Cocoa’s body is 2x as thick as Pepper’s respective parts (2x thicker arms, thighs, belly), and the only reason you’re not seeing the muffin top is because she actually HAS CLOTHES ON. Street clothes that pull back some of the fluff.

This change in design could be taken by some as not a change in design.

  Not to mention, Chalo even said in the description that he thinks Cocoa might look a little thinner here and that he saw this comic as an opportunity to practice more varied body types. So even if Cocoa has lost any weight here, it was completely by accident.
  
  Plus, just about any artist will tell you that plus sizes are a bitch to draw. Totally worth it though, Cocoa looks mad smexy here. :3

    Actually not. Knowing the right body type (which any artist will know by the way) the process then resolves around increasing mass in the right spots. If we take a closer look at her first depiction, she does look fat.
    
    In her first appereance at BatB, she was also fatter.
    
    However, this one depiction actually resembles more Tila than what she is meant to be.
    
    As I said, an artist with a concept of anatomy + different female body types as well as a clear idea of where the adipose tissue (short: fat) goes could come up with a good result. However, the closest definition of it would be taking a picture of a thin girl, then narrowing it. See no belly fat. See no muffin top. I don’t think she’s even wearing one of these “muffin’ top-proof” jeans we see nowadays.
    
    If you have seen a fat chick before, you know that using tight pants will make visible these “love handles”. Unless her upper clothing is really loose. Which is not the case here.
    
    Looking at it from different angles (panel angles) I can notice her body has no definition other than the perfect “hourglass” shape.
    
    I’m sorry if you don’t like this, but it’s clear this character was only “widened” in some parts. I would like to see how the artist deals with her hands. I don’t really expect anything besides the “diminute” hands with needle-point fingers.
    
    Besides, I’ve noticed from some contacts at specialized forums that overweighted females finds offensive this “holllywood thick” body shape. In their words: “it derives from reality, creating an unrealistic standard loosely based on any actual source.”
    
    By the way, I do know a girl who has wide hipes and large breast. She doesn’t like this. You can still notice her muffing top, belly fat, and thick arms. She wouldn’t call this a “valid” depiction of her body type.

      You raise a lot of good points. Cocoa’s anatomy certainly isn’t perfect here, but I wouldn’t expect it to be. It’s been a long time since Chalo has drawn Cocoa or Tila. Not out of spite for the characters, but simply because there hasn’t really been a chance to use them up until now.
      
      I’m not gonna act like Chalo or his art is perfect. 90% of his characters are curvy girls with gigantic boobs, so frankly it’s his own damn fault that he can’t draw plus-sizes very well. That being said, I don’t think that the problem is that Chalo can’t stand fat girls, I think it’s just that he doesn’t have a lot of experience drawing them so they don’t really come out looking right.
      
      Look, don’t get it twisted. I’m not trying to argue with you, I think you raise some good points, and I can understand your frustrations. I just don’t think it’s fair to assume that the artist can’t tolerate chubby girls. If that was the case, he wouldn’t have created Cocoa or Tila in the first place.

      Seen one? I dated one. She had a habit of wearing blue jeans high enough that the button would come into place directly at her bellybutton, a placement that did tuck her stomach in a fair degree. It’s not a stretch to think that’s about where Cocoa’s are placed. That and she’s bent a little forward in both the panels we see her figure in. The only thing I’ll disagree is that Cocoa is and always has been at least chubby. I’ve seen people mimic her figure here, if a little less busty in person. Everything else, I do understand what you’re saying.
      
      Also, thanks for mentioning Cocoa’s first appearance. For some reason I kept thinking the mud wrestling match was her first cameo. Looking there, yes, she’s visibly thicker in the belly and hands (though I’d say the pointy finger thing nowadays is a Chalo-ism) while thinner in the neck. It’s also a different art style, which may come with taking more time on the result.

Oh Randal price isn’t everything. People pay just as much for video games that last for hours and can be anti-social. Roleplaying games can can last for years of entertainment and by default require you to be social. A 40 dollar book you will use 4 to 5 hours a week with friends for two or three years at minimum or 60 dollar new console shooter that will be replaced by the “new” new shooter in 9 months or less, then the “new” “new” new shooter 4 months after that, and so on.

Parents, buy your kids pen and paper roleplaying games not video games. Friends of parents, do their kids a favor and buy them roleplaying games. They are educational goodness. Basic mathematics reinforcement, reading comprehension, creative thinking, group management skills (for the game runners).
