Aaand this chapter is done!

I’m aware that this will be a very divisive topic among everyone folllowing the comic, but I’m very happy how this arc turned out. Getting some closure on these chars is something I been wanting to reach for a while, and it’s great to finally be doing so.

A brand new arc starts on next page (after the Knighthood update) and that’s another fun one I been waiting to work on. It’s gonna focus back to some of the chars we haven’t seen much in the farm lately.

Stay tuned!

  • Bottas Heimfe (Dovahkitty)

well…. that is not how i imagined it to go. but whatever.

  • Trombley

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Al

So… He just says “We’re dating”, and that’s it. He literally dictates to her that they’re doing this. And she just fucking agrees.

    • Joshua Stewart

I present to the jury, the most recent example of character inconsistencies in this comic.

    • HoppyGuy

He didn’t dictate anything. SHE gave him a choice to make last page, and he made it. This page is just him clarifying and making it “official” so there is no room for misunderstanding between them.

      • Joshua Stewart

And yet not 5 pages ago, she told him why they could never be together and not just because he’s super flighty, but because they both need to fix themselves.

        • HoppyGuy

Which I’d call this the start of them fixing themselves, together.

This could have been done better, but hell, anything can always be done better. It fits well enough for me to accept, anyway.

          • Al

Uh, no. No it doesn’t fit. And Miles should have to fix himself BEFORE being rewarded. This is nothing more than a character having her personality changed at the drop of a hat to end an arc quicker and give the illusion that character development has happened.

      • Al

Yes he did. He said “We’re dating.” She replies with an “Alright.” that suggests she had to think about it. She gave ZERO indication of considering herself his girlfriend until this very moment. And then they advance right to a kiss without any inbetween, because this comic’s writers have always been under the impression that this is how love works.

        • Aruswrath

And that is why, until not long ago, we lost our comment privileges. Seriously guys if you really want to read some romantic masterpieces and such I bet you already know where to go. They are not trying to win a price here or a place in the literature classics, they are just showing us some stories, ideas and characters. And if you are here is because you like any of them. I think they are doing the best they can do and i bet they are not always pleased with the out come but sometimes that is how it has to be. It may sound a bit cliche but if you can do better, please show us. I’ll be glad to give it a good read. Make your own comic and make us say “OH!!!, so that is how it was suppoused to be!!”

          • Pixymisa

Nobody is asking for the impossible. No one is asking for perfection. I think most are just asking for good or even just decent. If everyone just shouts praise how can the creators ever hope to improve. When you publish something you want people to enjoy it, and for that to happen you have to know what pitfalls to avoid.

Being consistent with character development and personalities is just basic knowledge and common sense. What we see here is like having a character die on one page and then suddenly be there on the next. No explanation, they just are. Or for a plant eating animal to suddenly be eating meat. You don’t write like that and expect people just to accept it. The story has to back it and show not tell.

If more people had said something, this whole episode might have been thought through a little better.

          • Al

“Let’s see YOU do better!” is not a valid argument.

          • Gio Gonzalez

IKR? It’s like telling movie critics to do better films than the ones they review xD

          • Aruswrath

And why critics don’t do their own movies? The answer is really simple and since you are really smart i bet you know it. And that is also my point here.

          • Gio Gonzalez

So, by that rationale, you’d think that regular citizens shouldn’t complain about bad politicians unless they become politicians themselves and do a better job first?

          • Aruswrath

So it is now politics? You are all over the place. Nope I think that the spec is a lot wider than only good or bad. Yes, regular citizens can be awesome politicians (if they are sannely enough to don´t throw their frustations and fears to someone weaker). The thing is that if they were better persons and i’m talking about averyone, they wouldn’t let any “Mal man” reach power. That doesn’t make much sence here but i we go back, the Answer to my question before was Effort, it is hard to create but Destroying something doesn’t cost anything, even while critizicing you can create but there are easier paths and people take them. I’m not saying that I agree with the outcome, (It needed a little more development) but i think the strip can be uderstood, and unless you had effort invested in something being so sore for something as silly as this, is weird. (I’m talking about Al not you)

          • Gio Gonzalez

No, we’re not talking about politics, and we’re not talking about films, either, I’m just making analogies of how flawed your logic is, in how someone isn’t allowed to criticize something unless they can produce a better work than the one they are critiquing.

Like, let’s PRETEND that I say I can do better, that would make me a crappy artist/writer right there because I would lose all shred of objectivity since I’m not letting my readers judge my work by themselves.

          • Aruswrath

And how can i judge that your critizicing is on point if you can’t show me your worth, believing in someone without any value would be as silly as your statement. you can critizice all you want but there are only worth in the words of someone who can back them. And as a lot of things that people can own but just a few are worth of it, such is the ability to critic. Internet is wrong and the “freedom” it give us. Only because there are more sheeps who follow one thought doesn’t make them be in the right. Lets talk about sheeps now, they are fluffy and taste delicious.

          • Gio Gonzalez

Sorry, by your logic, you can’t judge sheep unless you are a sheep yourself and fluffier and more delicious 🙁

Anyway, I’ll humor you and show you mine, though, fair warning, my drawing skills don’t compare to Chalo, and most of this stuff is on hiatus since I’m currently focusing on printed comics I’m doing with groups in my locality, also, I’ll delete this part of the comment as soon as you tell me you’ve checked the link, since I don’t want this to be a shameless plug to try and steal Chalo’s audience.

            http://makotomikami.deviantart.com/gallery/

On the left you’ll see most of the comic folders, there’s slice of life, medieval fantasy even fanfic, take your pick, and if you have a DA account, I’d be honored if you commented, regardless if you’re an artist or writer, or if you like it or not, I’d be mighty thankful for your time.

Also, just to be clear, not saying that I’m a better artist nor writer, since, I myself dropped the ball more than once in these stories, hopefully you can tell when, or may even end up disliking everything, either way, I’d thank you for your time.

          • Aruswrath

So, you can’t. I thought as much. And, only because you say that, It doesn’t means that that is a “valid argument” either.

          • Al

Actually yes, it is. Because whether or not someone can do better doesn’t factor into the quality of the thing the person is criticizing.

And actually, yes, I think EVERYONE ripping this shitty page a new one could indeed write a better outcome.

          • Aruswrath

            Show it

          • Aruswrath

How can one not be related to the other? That makes no sense. And again,
Show me how awesome you are and do it better, which outcome would have
been more adequate? Also, why the verbal violence? Is like you are
taking it personally with the autor, unless you… but that would
mean.. Never mind, sorry for being so rude to you.

    • Gokudomatic

You’re just a jealous bad loser.

And I told you. If you don’t tell them it was impossible for them to date, they might do it. And they did. 🙂

      • Al

I’m not sure you actually know what “jealous” or “bad loser” mean.

        • Gokudomatic

You’re right. My English is still not so good. I meant “envious sore loser”. My bad.

          • Winner

envious? of what? Rachel basically just told Miles they aren’t dating because of they are horrible people and they need to fix themselves. Which I agree.

Except here is where you get stupid on me: OH WELL IT HAPPENED BECAUSE WE MADE SUCH A FIT ABOUT IT.

Yeah no, that’s idiotic. If you can’t even follow your own reader’s commentary on what’s good at least once on how relationships work then you seriously have no idea how relationships work. This isn’t make believe land when you basically say that “OH HEY THE ODDS ARE AGAINST US BUT WE WILL WIN” no. That’s not how the world works, in reality if it doesn’t work. It’s not going to work.

          • Gokudomatic

What the hell are you talking about? I was talking to AI, not you. I never said anything to you (didn’t even know you existed) and I’ve no time for stupid people like you anyway.
And by the way, I don’t have my own readers. Did you thought I was Chalo under a false pseudonym? Now *that* is idiotic! Do me a favor and never speak to me again.

          • Winner

Hey Chalo when’s the next page.

          • Gokudomatic

Next Tuesday. In fact I was gonna… Hey! Didn’t I tell you to shut up?!

      • The Aussie Bloke

Some people would do it even if they *were* told it was impossible, just to prove them wrong.

    • The Aussie Bloke

The fact that she agrees with him means that yes, she’s happy with this arrangement. She could have just as easily said no (and probably decked him for emphasis)

      • Al

Nah, the fact that she agrees with him shows the writing is rushed and contrived and forgets what it established mere pages ago.

  • At last, my nightmare came true lmaooo. Knew it was coming anyways. q.q

    • Al

What makes it all the worse is how unnatural and forced it is. She just went from starting to accept him as a friend to suddenly agreeing to being his girlfriend and kissing him just because he told her that’s how he wants it to be in the span of a few pages. And on top of that, he never even had to address or change the shitty way he views women and relationships.

  • Irvin James

well… alright then, now lets get back to our good friend “Unnecessary Adversity”

  • Gio Gonzalez

Welp, all those previous pages were for naught, it seems.

    • Al

Yep. They might as well have jumped right from Miles’ “we’re exactly alike” speech to this.

      • Gio Gonzalez

Yep, Rach basically told him a million reasons why they couldn’t be a couple, heck, she went from admitting herself as Miles’ friend then jump to this, might as well made her the bossy girlfriend and tell him “naw! If you wanna get down with me you gotta get rid of that stupid plane and work hard like a mofo from now on!” and Miles just sayin’ “aight! Long as I’m getting some of that poon, fine by me!”.

        • Winner

You know what Gio, I take back what I say about you. You got your head on your shoulders, you are absolutely right. There is seriously no reason for Miles to even be around here at this point.

          • Gio Gonzalez

            Finally.

  • Pixymisa

So…what was the point of ANY of the past few pages? These two were just getting to a point of understanding of being friends, and now for no reason at all they are a couple. Just wasting everyone`s time.

This further illustrates one of this comics major flaws and that is the romantic development. IT DOSEN”T EXIST. All it takes is for one character to say I want to date you, and boom it happens. No matter if the other person had never ever waht so ever shown any real interest in romance, all it takes it for someone to admit their feelings and they are in love. Not like, LOVE. It started with Minos and Mora and it has not stopped. Does unrequited love not exist in this world? Is lust considered love? It’s a wonder the prime population isn’t out of control because it obvioulsy dosen’t take much to get in each other’s pants. IT just kills suspension of disbelief to see this happening and working out every time. Not feeling the same way is not a bad thing. This is avatar levels of bad romance

This couple really had potential. It’s the only one that got development, believable, and was helping the characters grow. To see it them come togetahe like this is like watching someone trip at the finish line. Unearned happy ending just barely scratches the surface of what’s wrong with this.

    • Al

Hell, he didn’t even say he wants to date her, he just straight-up dictated to her that they’re dating and it magically became true. And of course it worked, because part of this whole thing has been basically teaching us that Rachael’s high standards were bad and she needs to settle for exactly the opposite of the type of guy she likes.

    • Gokudomatic

It looks like you’re not used to twisted expressions of love.

      • Pixymisa

I’m not sure what you mean. A twisted expression of love is never a good thing. That’s carving your crush’s name into your skin with a knife. That’s watching them sleep through their window.

Though with the way this comic does romance, I can see something similar happening and it being called in a seriousness “love”. Mostly just because the author wants it over with.

        • Al

He’s probably one of those special cases who thinks all the avoidance, disgust, ridicule, etc. from Rachael towards Miles and her interest in men like Minos was her way of saying “I want you to break and dominate me because I just want a dick in me and I don’t care whose it is.” That and/or he thinks Miles’ toxic views and methods are ideal, much like the writer.

  • flaagan

    Way to go, flyboy!

  • Meme man

“I would like to report a crime“.What is the crime sir. “Various webcomics are murdering my feelings.“

    • Winner

What? We have to follow this insane logic? Says who? Fuck that shit.

  • I gotta say, after the last pages, if I were Miles I wouldn’t date her. Come on, instead of being a normal supportive person in face of someone looking to change his ways, Rachael was just a bitch in these last few dialogues. I was really rooting for them to end up together since they started talking to each other, but after all the development since the arena… I don’t think this is working out very well…

    • Al

If this were the least bit realistic, we’d at least see Rachael politely turn him down and tell him not to rush things, to see where things go with them as friends first, considering she only just got finished reaching the stage of fully accepting him as a friend. Meanwhile, he didn’t have to change a damn thing about himself, as usual. In the end, this whole arc was basically devoted to giving him everything he ever wanted as one final act of self-indulgence by the author he’s a self-insert for.

  • Joshua Stewart

So .. BASICALLY.. Every single page we’ve been seeing of the two together and getting real with each other was totally and utterly worthless, wasted tripe.

Why have all this good character development when SoulKat can have his insert get with the unkillable sex meat and THEN the tsundere?

All that good stuff, that great writing, shit all over and all on so you can do THIS that totally goes against Rach’s character AND THE CONVERSATIONS JUST TWO PAGES BEFORE!

    “Are we dating?”

“No, you suck, i suck too, Fix yourself”

    “ok, but we’re dating thou”

    “Ya kay”

    Are you guys SERIOUS?!

    • Al

Hell, even worse than that, Rachael JUST got finished saying she’d love to just call him a prick and call it a day, that the shit he pulled on Taffy won’t work on her, that he can’t cover up his awful behaviour with favours and gifts, that he needs to better himself if they’re going to remain friends, that he can keep chasing a dream of flying around aimlessly with some woman who adores him or stay here with someone who’s at least willing to consider herself his friend…

And now all it takes is for him to firmly state that they’re dating, “whether you agree or not” implied, and she just happily agrees and immediately kisses him like she’s loved him for years.

      • Joshua Stewart

I just can’t believe this, and Chalo’s fine with this? He had to draw all that character development when he could of skipped like.. 8 pages and then just show them kissing? Why show any of what was shown if this was just gonna be the result? Why?

        • Al

Simple: To give the illusion of Miles changing when all that happened is someone suggested he do so. That way, they can pretend it makes sense for these two to suddenly be the perfect couple the shippers always wished they were, and they can also finish SK’s run as writer and shove these two to the sidelines until it’s time for the ending. Or at least until it’s time for some half-assed porn page featuring them.

          • Joshua Stewart

“hey guys, we got this great plot line where Rach and Miles say they wanna work to be better people and Rach doesn’t wanna date em.”

YO SOUL DROP IT HARD! *Drops the plot, as a matter of fact smashes it against the floor so hard it shatteres to some shitty Skrillex remix.*

          • Al

Skrillex is one of the good dubstep makers though. SK’s more like some bad wannabe if we’re going with that comparison.

          • Joshua Stewart

Again, one thing we also disagree on XD

Glad you can enjoy it though, I only can like a few songs here and there.

          • Gio Gonzalez

I like Skrillex, his album Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites it’s his best work, music got too generic and commercial after that, but maybe he’ll have a comeback once he gets older like a lot of electro/dubstep artists.

Anyway, Miles has to feel like Chalo on his Patreon, to be rewarded for not even trying, huh? Anyway, got an announcement to make, that will probably make a lot of people happy, I’m done with this comic, as I’ve got the answer I needed: just as this arc’s conclusion, it was indeed a pointless waste of time to read it all along, also, I really don’t think I can make worse writing than this nor insult my readers so bad even if I tried, so yeah, happy times for people who complained about my comments, I’ll still probably hang around a bit for the few people that shared my opinions, but done reviewing this objectively, since, you can’t possibly do that either.

          • Al

The people coming out to try and defend it now are hilarious.

  • Jacob Freid

*Take a long, deep breath, then says in a Tychus voice* Hell, it’s about d*** time

    • Joshua Stewart

Aside from the fact Miles didn’t earn this.. Are you honestly gonna say hell but not damn? they’re both the same level of a swear word, just say damn.

      • Jacob Freid

Never saw hell as a swear like damn, shit, and so-forth. Guess its just how I was raised, but fuck it

        • Joshua Stewart

That’s the fucken spirit, now have a good one, ya Cunt.

          • Jacob Freid

Back at ya, ya bastitch *Gets on a space hog, lights up a cigar, and flies off*

  • Gokudomatic

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if half a community suddenly cried out in anger. Good thing is, the other half cried out of relief.

    • Al

Are you blind? Almost EVERYONE is calling this page out for the piece of bad writing it is, including people who wanted to see them end up together.

      • Gokudomatic

It is well known that Miles divided the fanbase community in half, one part hating him and the other one liking him. You can’t judge the number of Miles’ fans in only a few pages.
Also, I know you hate him so much that your opinion is obviously biased. Telling me i’m blind when I can hardly hear you behind all this hate is almost amusing. I don’t even feel to block you.

        • Al

You can’t block people on Disqus anyway. If you could, I’d have done it to you several comments ago to avoid hearing you talk out of your ass some more.

          • Appledash

LOL, he thinks that blocking is the ultimate counter-argument AND biggest insult, wish he’d realize that won’t save him from sock puppet accounts, like seriously, isn’t my goggles fetish obvious enough?

          • Gokudomatic

Ignoring a guy is indeed the biggest insult I can do to someone, indeed. But I don’t count that as a counter-argument. More like a rage-quit.

          • Phuufy

Actually, anyone with a staff-membership can moderate the Disqus like a normal forum. Don’t be such a douche to other users or someone who disagrees with your opinions. Otherwise, Chalo is gonna close down the comments section again.

          • Thor

Considering the content of most of these posts, closing down this comment section can’t truly be considered a loss.

          • Gokudomatic

I have great news for you. Just click on the little arrow at the right of my messages and you’ll see a button that says “block user”. I find however a bit mysterious that you always replied to me if you didn’t even want to hear me.

  • angel81

    YHAA BABY ROCK ON !

  • spacefan1993

I knew they would get together someday. They are perfect for each other. 😀

    • Al

Ah, yes, perfect in that they share next to nothing in common and had no interactions that would actually indicate mutual affection.

      • spacefan1993

I watch quite a few love stories, from anime to live action, and they usually start off with the boy and girl having nothing in common, or can even be hostile with each other. But the chemistry is there, and soon enough, it turns into love. Rachael is very much the tsundere type of girl.

I knew this would happen for a while. It was plainly obvious to me all the way back when they sparred together that one time. They had chemistry then, and now it blossomed into romance. Not having anything in common is meaningless when it comes to love stories like this.

        • Al

Okay, I should’ve stopped reading the minute I saw that your frame of reference comes from poorly written anime and you called Rachael “very much the tsundere type” like so many others who desperately want to believe she was faking her animosity and high standards. This isn’t some natural, chemistry-heavy progression into love, this literally jumped from reluctant friendship to smooching just because he told her they’re dating. Nor is it a love story, it’s mindless self-indulgence mixed with pandering to a particular portion of the fandom via rewriting a character’s personality and faking another’s character development.

I’m going to lift a quote from the forum here, because this sums it up perfectly, aside from the simple fact that this is horrible writing that makes all the 10 or so pages prior entirely pointless:

“Speaking anecdotally, I never felt any chemistry between them, much like I never felt any chemistry between Miles and Mora. Miles repeatedly verbally indicated that he was attracted to Rachael, but hasn’t ever really reflected that in his actions. Rachael similarly has given no indication of being attracted to Miles, and based on her reaction to Randal in the Festival arc and her…infamous feelings for Minos, she seems to be attracted to a very different kind of attitude to anything Miles has displayed in the comic proper. He comes closer in Learning Curves, but never really gets to the same ballpark that Randal and Minos did in the aforementioned scenes.

Less anecdotally, let’s compare the two for a minute. Do they have much in the way of common interests? Not that we’ve seen. Do they want the same things out of life? Signs point to no. In fact this expedition started with an affirmation of as much with Miles’ proposal and Rachael more or less saying that the only time she would have considered it was when she was angry with Sarah. Do they help each other become better people? No. Do they round off each other’s characters? No. Do they play off each other’s natures? Not to any appreciable degree. Do they get along? Not really. At best they tend to be vitriolic friends, and we were shown a few pages ago that they don’t have the strong connection required to make that work.

Point being that they shouldn’t really work as a couple. There’s just not enough to draw them together emotionally.”

  • mastergodai

Take Cover! here comes the salt! *grabs large bucket of french fries*

  • Wolf2125

    Saw this coming. ^^

    • Al

You were expecting them to skip from Point A to Point D, were you?

Ah, wait, guess that’s normal for fans of this comic.

      • WhiteFang59

Seriously dude, don’t like it, go read something else, everyone’s got better things to do than read every single troll comment you have about this arc.

        • Al

Saying things you don’t like or agree with =/= trolling.

          • WhiteFang59

Arguing with anyone who says anything that you don’t agree with = trolling

          • Joshua Stewart

So .. you’re trolling by arguing with him because you don’t like his opinion.

          • WhiteFang59

Like you are arguing my opinion, so step down from your high horse.

          • Joshua Stewart

I never said I was on a high horse or soap box, I am just pointing out how your definition of trolling is stupid. Because that’s not what trolling is, Trolling is the intentional act of saying something or acting in a way that you know is wrong or annoying to get others to be angry.

“This comic totally just ruined the moment and made the last 5 pages worthless” does not in fact, constitute trolling.

“I love it when Captain Picard used the Force to fight the Cylons” while said near someone who takes Scifi way serious.. is actually trolling.

          • WhiteFang59

The fact that I’ve seen the dude multiple times say Chalo is a terrible writer or something about not knowing how to write a story or argue against anyone who liked how this ended proves he knows its wrong but just wants to do it.
Opinion would be one thing if he explains why he doesn’t like it, or at least tries to be respectful on his comments, but when it’s multiple comments of nothing but negative comments it becomes your very definition of trolling. What’s one of the golden rules we’re taught growing up, “if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”

          • Gio Gonzalez

That’s generally what grade teachers say to kids who don’t know what they’re saying, here, we’re all adults, therefore, we can deconstruct how and why a work is lacking the most basic elements in story telling.

Nowadays people think that everything they can’t argue against is “trolling” and even complaining about something is “trolling”.

          • Al

Don’t you know? It’s basically a golden rule around these parts that harsh criticism is automatically trolling.

          • WhiteFang59

Whatever, the two most negative commenters on this comic agreeing with each other, no surprise there.

          • Gio Gonzalez

You call it negativism, I call it reality, you call it positivism, I call it denial.

          • Al

Actually, I didn’t say Chalo’s a terrible writer, cause he isn’t the writer. Nice to know you’re not actually reading the comments you so readily complain about.

          • Joshua Stewart

He HAS shown why he doesn’t like it, he has explained why its crap, he has explained how realistically things should go. He could be nicer about it, but when we have character assassination happening that the artist and ‘writer’ are “proud of” .. well sometimes you don’t wanna be nice any more.

Again, this is not trolling, this is counter arguing against this being “good story telling” because it’s not.

Yes, That little golden rule is perfect for children, and only children, not so much adults.

Gee, that person is driving in a dangerous manor… better not say anything cause it’s not nice.

Gee.. that person is hitting someone else.. Well.. better not say anything not nice.

Gee.. This person and their comic book is some of the most sexist, badly written, horrible things I’ve ever seen that constantly has characters almost kill one another, break their things, Deamining females and nothing bad happen aside from LOL.. COMIC SLAP STICK!!!1!11 what so ever… Gee.. I think I’ll say something because Frankly, sometimes you just gotta.

Yes, it is disguising seeing how the writing has turned out, Yes, it is disgusting to see how a strong female with her faults has had all of her good points smashed aside so Soul Kat can have his Self Insert go with his Waifu when every other page was leading to him actually having to work to get anything from this..

I had plenty of nice things to say when I saw that it was going in a positive direction and it actually seemed like things might make a turn for the best, Not so much any more.

  • Sherbert T Cat

I’m just here for the triggered commenters.

    • Gio Gonzalez

I agree, at this point, even that is way more interesting than this travesty of a web comic.

    • Al

“Triggered” apparently means “willing to call out bad writing and character inconsistency”, okay.

  • Zarylo

    what?

    • Al

Yeah, that’s essentially the reaction everyone with any sense of what constitutes good writing is having.

  • Joshua G

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :3

  • Emilio de la Fuente

Okay i’m good with this, i mean usually i like things to be romantic and all, but them are just like that. Miles want to be like romantic but rachel it doesn’t look to love those things. So i love how they make it official, with miles chosing what to do.

  • Wolf2125

I have no qualms with this.

I respect everyone’s opinion but honestly, nitpicking at the flaws isn’t always a good thing.

I like this comic page for what it is and I’m cool with Miles and Rachael starting a relationship together.

Being overcritical about what transpired doesn’t help. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect all the time because nobody’s perfect.

Anyways, I give this last comic page a 10.5/10 and a round of applause to Chalo. This was very good and I like that Miles and Rachael are an item now because they are very much alike in certain aspects and I enjoy these comic pages for what they are. You got no complaints from me.

    • Al

No one’s asking for perfection. We’re asking for believability and actual good writing.

  • Kristen Hall

I’m not really cool with this but whatever. Miles has to date someone so when Hope comes looking for him their will be drama.

  • Gilarin

*From the depths of obscurity, I rise once more– how many years has it been? Too long, too long.*

Ahem. So after literal years of lurking, it took this divisive page to convince me to speak up once more– only because:
    A) I’ve been waiting for this moment for like, ever;
    B) No, it’s not how I would have approached it, and I sincerely hope they don’t screw it up by pushing for too much, too fast; but
    C) I think this development makes more sense than some people give it credit for, and I don’t think it deserves the vitriol I’ve seen flung around by a vocal few commentators.

    Thoughts to follow.

    • Gilarin

Re: “Miles just dictates the relationship, and Rachel goes along with it like a Mary-Sue”
I can see how the wording, divorced of all context, would appear that way coming from his mouth. If he had said this out of the blue without the lead-up to it, or earlier out of pure cockiness before she first called him out, it would indeed appear shallow and betray his self-professed growth. But with context, we see that he is responding to her mandate: [You can choose your shallow dream] “…or staying here with me”. Which yes, can be interpreted as strictly platonic, and I won’t fault anyone for that– but it can equally be interpreted as an admission that she’s open to romance with him, and given the clear set-up that line played in his response, I think it’s more fair to assume that the latter was the intent, since it makes more sense in story context. I mean, if she felt he was being a conceited prick in this moment rather than responding to her (implied) invitation, she would clearly call him out on it, as she has spent 5 pages doing. Which brings me to the next point.

      • Al

Yeah, except that she showed absolutely zero signs of wanting such a relationship with him until this very moment. She just jumped from reluctant friendship to deeply in love with him in seconds flat.

        • Gilarin

I completely disagree. =) See TL;DR post above re: classic anime tropes of emotion-hiding. Also, see mounting pages and pages of smiling, confident Rachel whenever she and Miles are doing stuff together even since becoming roommates. Yes, those expressions can be interpreted other ways as well. But you are incorrect in trying to authoritatively claim that they CANNOT be read as “signs of wanting a relationship”– or at the very least, signs of giving him a chance to prove he’s not a complete D-bag.

          • Al

Love how you totally ignore the fact that, again, she was setting up conditions for them to even be friends, ones he has yet to even meet.

          • Gilarin

That’s fair, and also not fair at the same time. Her condition for “if we’re going to stay friends” was indeed the initial catalyst for this conversation, although:
            A) The only condition directly relating to this was “you need to realize [that no one’s jealous of you]”– a specific task, distinct from all the more generalized information that follows after, although obviously one of many undertones relating to all of it.
            B) Friendship can be amended to Affection at any time when someone demonstrates desirable qualities above and beyond your (admittedly minimal, coming from Rachel) expectations. Miles withstood the full brunt of her unrelenting honesty, accepted his faults implicitly by not arguing them further, did not lash out in accusation when she bared her own failures to him, and then chose her over his “dream”. Probably all well beyond Rach’s initial expectations.

          • Al

            Sure thing, dude.

          • Pixymisa

Yes friendship can lead to affection and more…with time. That did not happen here. We went from truly being friends to being lovers in like two pages.

Just because Miles listened to her doesn’t mean he’s a good romantic partner. He’s barley a good person right now.

          • Al

Hell, who’s to say it’ll even last? Given all the other times we’ve been assured he’d change for the better only to see him decide he’s perfect as he is and the world needs to change for him, and how she’s just fallen for what’s essentially one of the many tricks she said she wouldn’t fall for that he’s pulled on other girls…

In fact, if a better writer were to take over after this page, we’d probably see this relationship start falling apart pretty fast, especially since we’ve seen no evidence of Miles changing the way he views women and relationships, there was no buildup, and they simply aren’t compatible unless you severely alter one characters’ personality.

          • Pixymisa

Yeah, that’s pretty much the only way for this story arc to save itself at this point. It’s awful because of how unnecessary it would be and yet at the same time it’s what’s needed to put things on the right track. Such a waste.

          • Al

Hell, if not for the terrible writing and juvenile, romcom anime-inspired views on romance and relationships this comic perpetuates, I don’t think very many of the pairings we’ve seen would last long. Seriously, what do Mora and Minos have going for them besides constantly having sex? What has Taffy and Randal being together accomplished for either character besides fulfilling Taffy’s apparent inability to function without a man in her life? Shit, why does every character at the farm except Sunny have to be bound to only dating other people at the farm?

          • Pixymisa

Romance as a whole in this comic is just awful. If it isn’t contrived (MoraxMinos, Alej xToots, and now this mess) it’s boring (Taffy and Randal)

It really cripples what can be an other wise ok slice of life story.

          • Al

Actually, Alej and Tootsie are one of the only good pairings in this comic, which is ironic because SK openly doesn’t enjoy writing same-sex pairings and even spent a good amount of time trying to convince people via the forum that Tootsie isn’t a lesbian. They also had plenty of buildup and natural progression, unlike basically any other couple, and have so far been the most realistic one seen in the main comic.

          • Pixymisa

I just feel like we needed to see more feeling pre confession from Alej. Overall it wasn’t too bad at all ,and it played out pretty well. I just felt like it needed a bit more to feel right.

          • Al

Fair enough. Still, you gotta admit, it’s been a shitton better than everything else.

Maybe we should count ourselves lucky Sunny’s relationship is never focused on in the comic proper–what we’ve seen of it in supplemental material is actually pretty sweet and I’d hate to see that messed up.

          • Al

If anything, this has all made me kinda thankful that we won’t be seeing these two much, if at all, from here on. Can you imagine how unbearable their interactions will likely become?

          • Pixymisa

Cringe as you’ve never seen it before. As a couple

          • Gilarin

Mmm, I have to disagree. From what I’ve seen in the comic, Rachel has been friendly toward Miles for a good while now– note her wording when she’s telling him no one is jealous of him: “…If we’re going to STAY friends.” Not “if we’re going to BE friends”, not “if you want me to CONSIDER you a friend”, but a continuation of an existing state (of friendship). I’d say that at least in an unofficial capacity, Rachel has likely regarded him with some degree of friendship since he ran with her that one time and made himself look like an idiot, but didn’t give up. That was the first time I recall her viewing him with a spark of respect– and heck, didn’t she even give him like a teasing shoulder-punch or something at the end of that scene? Admittedly, it’s been so long ago that I can’t recall– in any case, I would say that respect was the first brick in building their friendship, and we’ve see them getting along reasonably well ever since then. Their friendship is not something new or contrived, and her spending 3-4pages outlining the flaws that hold him back from being a better man do not diminish their friendship– as I said above, it’s the sort of brutal honesty that is shared with someone you highly regard. At least it CAN be read that way. We’re all free to perceive it differently, I just see legitimate evidence of all of the above that I feel is too quickly overlooked, dismissed, or misunderstood by a lot of readers. You really have to take episodic comics like this as a whole, even if that “whole picture” spans years and years of work due to sporadic upload cycles and different story arc focuses.

          • Wolf2125

Gilarin, I agree with everything you’ve said 110%.. I liked how things in the comic page turned out and I appreciate each page for what they are and not be overly critical every little detail.

    • Gilarin

Re: “OMG Rach just spent 5 pages destroying him/ telling him how much she hates him/ how he can never be good enough for her/ etc etc, how could she change her mind???”
No, she just spent 5 pages calmly and succinctly calling him out on his bullsh!t. And then explaining in a mature way how she sees a similarity in their messed up treatment of those around them. It’s a painful truth to lay out for him, and obviously he is hurt by it– but that’s what a true, mature friend has to do sometimes– pop your bubble in a matter-of-fact way so that you can finally recognize your mistake and move past it.

Once again, the backlash I see from this argument comes from taking the written words at face value without regard to the . I submit as evidence to the jury, every single one of Rachel’s expressions across this journey. We know from history that Rachel wears her anger on her sleeve: if she was saying any of this out of anger/resentment/disgust, it would be blatantly clear through her expression and probably her physicality as well. What expressions do we see: Page one of this fiasco, when Miles tells about Geecku: a calm moment to gather her thoughts with a hint of annoyance, then a cocky smirk. Next page, two variants of a challenging, bemused smirk, (note the furrowed brows, but relaxed lids), then annoyance with a universal hand gesture of “let me say this in a way that you will understand”. Next page, annoyed but measured, followed by a gentle gaze (pity, perhaps?). Next page, a patient smirk followed by a classic anime “hiding my real feelings” smirk. Next page– well, can we all just take a moment to appreciate how her first expression almost looks like she just reached a “dirty nirvana”? X’D Come on, I know you picked up on it too! Ahh, but we’ll call it a “placid” expression, followed by a well-deserved annoyed gesture, and then immediately thereafter, a look of peace– keeping in mind that he is currently treading upon her “sacred space”, and thusly it would be hard for her to have that sort of composure if she despised his very presence. Next page, some clear expressions of guilt as she tells about how she led Sarah astray, but finally saw things differently. Next page, again with the hidden expression when he suggests that she hates him and they’re done, followed by admiration for Sarah’s forgiving spirit, leading into the mandate she offers him, which– surprise, surprise– completely veils her emotions from us once again.

Yes, that is an exhaustive list and I’ve TL;DR’d far too long here, but it’s all to make a point– these are not the expressions of angry, vindictive, nasty Rachel trying to utterly destroy him and shut him down– they are all measured, calm, insightful, and at times even playful expressions that one might use when calling a friend/lover out on their ignorance/mistakes/obliviousness/”flighty”ness. At least I see no way that they could be construed as being as hateful as some commentators would suggest. Obviously, art is all up to interpretation, and trying to discern the illustrator/author’s intent isn’t always a clear-cut task– but I think there is far more evidence here that she only calls him out so bluntly and heavy-handed because she genuinely wants to show him how–INVITE him, even– to change, alongside her. Because maybe, just mayyyyybe all the previous times we’ve recently seen her getting along with him in the last few months weren’t an act, weren’t all “forgotten” or ret-conned, and were meant to show a genuine growing bond between them. Perhaps she could actually have developed some manner of fondness for him after seeing “how hard he’s been trying”, per his own words. I for one am all for it. ^_^ And if you aren’t, that’s cool too, we’re all allowed our interpretations– I just can’t stand to see “consumers” imperically accusing authors/artists of being at fault based solely on the viewer’s own narrow-minded perception of the events transpiring.

      • Al

Yeah, not bothering reading a wall of text that basically amounts to “lol she was secretly in love with him the whole time~” bullshit.

        • Gilarin

Your right, your mistake, your loss. =)

          • Phuufy

You did a great job with your points @Gilarin . I’m sure that’s been Chalo’s intention with Miles/Rachael – even if some people are willingly ignorant. Even though it’s not my favorite ship admittedly and I think it could’ve been drawn out longer. I can at least see your argument as having lots of validity.

Also lol cartoon cats are serious business.

        • Joshua Stewart

How the hell did this crap get a featured comment? Also notice it only has one like on it.

          • Gio Gonzalez

It’s just the staff trying to pull a Zack Snyder to us “haters” that we “didn’t understand what they were trying to do”, but luckily, their fans have lower expectations and they did “get it”.

          • Al

Simple, the staff really badly want us to like and/or stop rightfully complaining about this page, so they’re pulling a Zack Snyder and claiming this BS was in fact the intention and what Rachael meant by “friends” was apparently “the truest of lovers” and that she was practically orgasming the whole time she was talking with him.

Next step will probably be claiming with total seriousness that she was jealous when Miles admitted to fucking Geecku and we just couldn’t see it cause we were willingly ignorant to her obvious burning love for him.

          • Gio Gonzalez

I just find it mind-boggling that Miles got EXACTLY what he wanted without even trying, he just sat next to Rachael, okay, first step towards self-improvement, but no, he got his reward right away!

It’s like a drunk man telling his wife “I’m gonna stop drinking TOMORROW!” and his wife is all “OMGS! I forgive all the beatings you gave me and our kids! Let’s have another baby right now!”, although… now that I think about it, even THAT makes a better love story than this! You think someone will sponsor it on Patreon for me? xD

Also, gonna be interesting to see when he tries to have Rach pity-fuck
him, but who am I kidding, right? Next time we see these two, they’re
gonna have a bunch of little Miles’ and Rachaels running around like a
            big happy family, right?

          • Al

I have no doubt in my mind that, with as rushed and shoddy as everything’s turning and with how close to the end the comic is getting, the ending’s probably gonna bring to mind DIgimon Adventure 02.

          • Gio Gonzalez

I wanna play a game, since the comments are the only thing interesting in this site now, and since we all know the writers don’t give a damn about us complaining how broken their delivery is on basic story telling, let’s start a game about predicting what will happen on the next arcs, using the very SAME broken M.O. they’ve used up until now, I’ll start:

Ambar offering Mora to become the new High Prime (because, obvious Mary Sue reasons), but, Mora will reject the offer, saying that Las Lindas farm is her home and has all the “family” she needs, however, suddenly, on the next page, we’ll be shown that Mora DID become the new High Prime after all and is now ruling the world from the comfort of her home and Minos plows her five times a day, how close do you think I cut it with that?

          • Al

Nah, I think it’ll be revealed by Ambar that Minos was sent to monitor her power level–the forumites came up with it, after all, so it must be good, right? Mora will then lose control and transform into a demonic form, striking down all the Crests, until everyone comes together for a big “No, Mora, this isn’t who you are! Come back to us, we love you!” moment. Then she’ll calm down and ascend to demigoddesshood as we’ve already basically been told she would. In the end we’ll see all the “perfect” couples after a timeskip, all with their numerous children, and the kids will all run off together as their parents happily watch to end the comic on a cliche freeze-frame, and Mora and Minos’ super godly kids will have their own mega-special holy Nanozell spirits given to them by Ambar too.

Also it’ll turn out Sarah’s the lost princess despite us already being told years ago that Kate is, it’ll be revealed that she was only pretending to be retarded this whole time, since now we’re being told that the lost princess is purposely avoiding her duties, and she’ll turn down her rightful position in favour of staying at the farm for some reason. That or Rachael’s the princess and Miles gets gratified further by finding out he’s fucking the most important Prime in the world.

          • Gio Gonzalez

You had me in “Sarah pretending to be retarded this whole time” xD

          • Al

It disgusts me that the comment now has 12 likes.

          • Gio Gonzalez

Welp, if a critic like me has a sock puppet account, how many do you think someone damage-controlling this comic has?

          • Joshua Stewart

Soul Kat and crew had to show the sheep which comment to like.

    • Joshua Stewart

no one seems to care about your opinions, you can crawl back to your depths, but if they are a shallow as your knowledge of good writing or character development, then you don’t have far to go.

    • Joshua Stewart

No one seems to care about your great return, so you can go sink back into the depths you came from. Though if it is as deep as your knowledge of actually good character writing and consistency, you don’t have far at all to go.

  • FullerUP

    wooooooooooooo!!!

  • Leokingdom10

I ship this…..well I alright did like years ago so BOOM!

  • Timecapsule13

HA!!! SUCK IT, I SAID ROMANCE AND I WAS RIGHT!!! SUCK ON YOUR WORDS!!!

    • Al

No, you retroactively became right because of this page’s forced, shitty, rushed writing and inconsistent characterization. Calm down there, buddy.

      • Timecapsule13

No, I was right because I appeared to be one of the few to remember that these two have been doing a dance around their feelings, revolving around hate, love and more, and they never officially dated, but they have had feelings, and now they are dating finally. I was here reading this since chapter 1, way back when. I read everything…

        • Al

          >implying there was love until now

Ah, I see, you’re one of those people who thinks Rachael’s liking for men the total opposite of Miles was a cover for being hot for him from the moment she got to the farm. Yeah, okay, you go ahead and think that.

  • MrAMP

Well, I was reading this early this morning, been seeing a ton of comments on this particular page on a couple of sites that I visit, had some discussion with a few friends of mine, and thought I’ll go ahead and put in my two cents just for the fun of it.

I’m going to level here. I know there has been “build up” here for quite some time now with the whole, beating him to a bloody pulse, running, jogging, and working together, but I’m still surprised that these two are actually dating, especially after the whole Miles riding the Geecku DESPITE the fact that they weren’t technically dating then. With that in mind, it is possible that some couples just like the insults and drama, kind of like the parents in Rick and Morty…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7MSYjFF9oc

With that being said though, I’m still with the majority that this seems kind of rushed. Again, understand the build up in all, but it’s like what the what! Why? It kind of feels like everyone is supposed to feel like they belong together despite the fact of “connection.” Literally five pages ago Rachael gave a detailed explanation as to why they could never really be together. So…what was the point exactly of the last five or so pages? It’s like the complete opposite of Taffy and Randal…like a foil of sorts. Ship wise, I suspect it would be called the SS Titanic. XD

Now, I’ve read somewhere that these two were supposedly put together because they were the same species, kind of like Mora and Minos. That…honestly makes no sense whatsoever. I mean, outside of those two, there are a ton of other mixed couples, such as Grace and Kayin, Vixy folks, and Shin’s folks. For the latter, I could see where it could be true because they’re cats. But outside of that, I highly doubt that would be the case.

And on one final closing note…
Sarah actually kind of hooked them up if you think about it.

    • Al

Basically yeah, that is the reason they’re together, apparently. Well, that and completing the arc’s theme of “Miles gets everything he wants”, insane shipper fantasy validation and fulfilling their goal of having Rachael’s entire character do a full 180.

    • Gio Gonzalez

Yeah, and Sarah also failed to murder Digit, she’s just a bag of disappointments.

      • Joshua Stewart

        *UNRESTRAINED, HIGH PITCHED LAUGHER!*

Oh shit.. I don’t hate Digit, but that comment made me bust a gut.

        • Al

          Likewise!

        • Gio Gonzalez

Also, remember how the sprites almost killed Miles as well after dropping this whole “suggestion” of him to walk off a cliff? Good times.

  • NaginataX

The entitlement mindset of some of these commentators is unreal. Even if the events of the comic don’t turn out how I would have foreseen, I would never have the gall to complain and criticize the creators who are providing this to us FOR FREE!

Thank you Chalo and crew for the many years of hard work you’ve put into this and I hope there are many more to come.

    • Al

Free =/= exempt from criticism. Sorry about that, but that’s reality.

      • NaginataX

Actually that’s exactly what that means. They could easily say “fk this” and end the comic anytime they want if they felt their work wasn’t appreciated. I’m guessing you don’t create your own content (deviantart, youtube, etc) if you honestly have that opinion.

        • Al

No, sorry, that’s not what it means. Just because you put something out for free doesn’t mean everyone has to be all thumbs-up, big smiles and giving nothing but shining praise and beaming 10 out of 10 reviews to everything you do. People like you who pretend it’s absolutely perfect are a huge reason why it never seems to improve, because they only listen to the people telling them everything they do is perfect and dismiss everyone else as a “troll”.

          • NaginataX

I never said you had to praise it, I’m saying you have no room to lecture it. If you don’t like it you’re more than welcome to go spread your negativity elsewhere. The creators own you nothing and whether you believe you’re entitled to a better page or not is immaterial.

          • Pixymisa

So anything free does not have to have decent quality and follow basic writing structure? Are you telling me that is asking for to much? Is it beyond their power?

          • NaginataX

It would be in their best interest to please the fans sure (happy fans = more donations after all). But technically, no, they are not obligated to cave to people’s demands like having certain characters hook up in a certain way.

There’s a difference between expressing that the page didn’t turn out like how some people envisioned it, and being toxic about it like a lot of the posters on here are doing.

Ex. “I didn’t expect them to hook up like that since their personalities don’t seem to match” vs “So..BASICALLY..Every single page we’ve been seeing of the two together and getting real with each other was totally and utterly worthless, wasted tripe” (Yes, that was an actual comment)

          • Al

Because it essentially was. They might as well have jumped from Miles doing his latest “We’re totally the exact same, so e belong together!” spiel right to this.

          • Pixymisa

Toxic would be calling this the worst web comic ever, saying it’s been bad since day, everyone who reads it is stupid and so on and so fourth. No one has done that.

The only demands being made is for the story to be consistent with itself. That’s not asking for anything more than basic storytelling.

          • Al

But don’t you know by now? Even asking for that much is a bad thing, according to many a fan of this comic.

    • Gio Gonzalez

So what’s that big “Support Las Lindas on Patreon” button for?

      • NaginataX

For people like me and others that enjoy the comic and want to make it worth their while. It’s not a contractual obligation that allows you to dictate to them what you want in the comic.

        • Gio Gonzalez

Yeah, but you can’t say “it’s free” as an argument, because it’s not a comic that it’s being drawn out of Chalo’s goodness, also, pretty sure he hasn’t always been steady on his own deadlines.

    • Joshua Stewart

My comments are free, There for you are not allowed to Criticize them.

  • cooladelic

I personally, don’t have a problem with this page. Yea Racheal gave a heartfelt speech about how hes a douche and got problems because he thinks he is better. But asking(or telling) her she will be my girlfriend is-in my opinion, different here. I think it’s good the Miles is dating her. She can keep him in check. Anouther thing to keep in mind is her response to the statement ‘ we’re dating ‘ it was “alright”. To me that sounds like. I got nothing else better to do. Might as well

In a nutshell I like miles ever since day one. I felt that he was a misunderstood character. He just wants to have a good time and enjoy life. He really is a free spirit. BUT is unable to see people as they are people. Since he is to caught up in himself it’s hard for him to see the worth and value of others. But since he is now dating Racheal, a person who would not let Miles get away with stuff cause she can beat him up. Is in a position that REQUIRES him to Listen rather that speak, to Understand rather that be understood. Though it did not come in the way the viewer expects it because, change does not happen in a day. It takes a LONG time to break a bad habit and hopefully with Racheals guidance it will work, or not who knows.

KEEP ON PUSHING MILES! I belive in you 🙂

    • Pixymisa

“she can keep him in check”? Why would you get with someone you have to watch all the time? That is about as unhealthy of a relationship as it comes. If development had happened like it should have by now Miles would not need watching. No one with the thinking of a well adjusted adult would get within 5 miles of him.

      • Al

All the more reason to believe Rachael is now among the most clueless and easy characters thanks to this lazy, rushed writing.

        • Pixymisa

It hurts to see character assassination like this. The worst part is I think it’s unintentional.

          • Al

Nah, knowing what the big point of this arc was and how long SK’s wanted to shove his self-insert and Rachael together, I’m sure it was completely intentional, especially since this was apparently SK’s last arc as writer. It’s very clear that he wanted to make sure Miles got everything he’s ever wanted but never actually earned as one last hurrah and grand ego-stroking before he departs. And that’s what makes this page so much more infuriating than almost any other awful decision before it.

          • Gio Gonzalez

Somehow I can imagine SK holding a kitchen knife over his wrist saying “GIMME MY MILES X RACHAEL SHIPPING OR I’LL DO IT! I SWEAR!”.

          • Al

            I wouldn’t go that far.

          • Gio Gonzalez
          • Al

            Yeah, that’s about right.

      • cooladelic

Change, happens over time, like I said before, you can have a change in ideals but actually putting them into practice will take dedication and hard work to do it. As for that “she can keep him in check” comment your arguments make sense. If you know the person needs constant monitoring why would you get with them.

Now as for the 5 miles statement. I understand you don’t mean it literally (or you did) but miles is not THAT bad. He just has a skewed perception of the world around him. He is not some serial killer running the streets. He is just Vain. And vanity can be combated with humility.

As for the page itself. I still like it but after reading more comments I see that the page could be better presented.

I STILL BELIVE IN YOU MILES! Don’t give up 🙂

        • Al

Yes, OVER TIME. Not instantaneously, as this page wants us to believe.

        • Pixymisa

the thing is Miles has not changed his ideals at all. He still thinks in an overly simplistic childish way. So going by that he will not change his practices, because his thinking has not changed. He hasn’t even shown he respects women yet. His vanity ( and pretty much everything else about him) make him almost a bad friend and even worse romantic partner. Giving him a good friend would have been a perfect chance to help him grow. In the end, it all went down the crapper for no reason. Like someone just could not be bothered.

In short Miles’s development has skipped steps 1-4 and is now at 5 where he should be a better person. Yet he is not.

          • Al

And yet here half the fandom is exclaiming that this writing is amazing. And some fanboy who wanted them to be shoved together from the start gets his “every page before this was Rachael playfully signalling her love” comment featured by the staff.

  • Topsy Cryt

I…I got nothing. Even I didn’t want then to end up together like this, not after the past few pages established that they both needed to improve themselves before they could be together.

    • Pixymisa

Makes you wonder how someone can drop the ball so hard, when they were doing so well.

      • Al

That’s a common theme with this comic. Every time it takes a good step forward, it then takes a huge clumsy backflip back. Rachael acknowledging the bad things she’s done (regardless of how much it reeked of trying too hard to convince us she’s been wrong in everything she’s done until now) and trying to teach Miles that he needs to better himself before he can get anywhere with her or anyone else was the step forward. This page was the backflip.

  • Al

    >Rachael has liked him has for a while

You go ahead and believe that.

    • Sly Fox

She’s liked and hated him cause she saw herself and she wasn’t happy with herself.

  • 125 comments overnight?? Oh my golly goshius!

    • Joshua Stewart

What do you expect when it goes from really really good writing, to absolute shit in a matter of pages?

      • Al

And then on top of that, people come out of the damn woodwork to defend this poor excuse for a pairing and worse excuse for writing…

    • Gio Gonzalez

Well, not gonna lie, now I’m enjoying the comments section way more than I ever enjoyed this worst excuse of a story, and I don’t mean to insult other people nor make fun of them, I genuinely happy arguing with people even if they don’t share my opinion, like, it’s so much more fulfilling than expecting this comic to ever get something right.

  • Zanar

Quick reminder: That they date, does not mean that they are a couple. It means that they go out together from time to time to see what happens

    • Al

Yeah, normally that’s what it would mean. But we also just saw them kiss as tenderly as longtime lovers, and this comic is not only set to end relatively soon, but also has a habit of having characters who date immediately be deeply in love and inseparable forever, Taffy and Miles aside. Plus this whole thing is also fuelled by years of fan demand to see these two banging, compatibility/characterization consistency/logic be damned.

  • Jacob Freid

OK, I have been reading these comments over the last few days. Some having fun, like myself, but the majority of it is just a shitton of fighting. I mean, holy crap, this is starting to become as toxic as some fandoms that I left because they ruined the series for me with their toxicity. Yes, a lot of you love/hate how this went. Yes, you want to voice your love/hate of it. No, you shouldn’t just bash the artist and those who are against you because they don’t agree with you. In the end, it is the artists decision how the story goes, and damnit, Chalo did a pretty decent job. I will quote an old saying that seems to be lost on everyone: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” If you don’t like it, then don’t read it. If you don’t like it, but you are going to keep reading it, refine your debate to where its not entirely toxic to everyone and keep an open mind.

This will honestly be my last run through the comments section here. With how toxic this thread has become, I can understand why it disappeared on my end for a short while before the whole site refit. To the artist, I honestly think you did a wonderful job, and I look forward to the next coming arc.

    • WhiteFang59

Agreed. There are really only 2 commenters who have been nothing but toxic, honestly I liked how this played out, because despite what they say there was a lot of building for both of them, not just between them but of themselves which is where this all led to. I am a fan of Chalo and he does a great job of writing a story and building up to something, is it always perfect, no, but then again no one is. So Chalo, keep doing what feels right to you, I’m always excited to read on

    • Al

To quote one of the other commenters, “Toxic would be calling this the worst webcomic ever, saying it’s been bad since day one and everyone who reads it is stupid and so on and so forth. No one has done that. The only demands being made is for the story to be consistent with itself. That’s not asking for anything more than basic storytelling.”

    • Gokudomatic

It’s pretty hard to resist the urge to reply to people bashing this webcomic and some of its characters for reasons they see as legit but which seems to be purely subjective and selfish to me. Until now, the best way to resist the temptation is to block them so I can’t read them. Maybe I should block AI too, since he likes to bash Miles a lot and I get the same urge to reply to him.

      Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

  • Miafillene

    *just smiles* Nicely done, IMHO.

  • Classy_Colibri

As a female reader, this is probably the most sexist page I’ve ever seen in a webcomic. A strong, independent woman like Rachael letting a trash bag like Miles tell her they’re in a relationship…and ACCEPTING IT. If that isn’t Twilight levels of writing, then I don’t know what is. And you know why? Simply because this comic is mostly read by young males who want to see nothing but boobs and butts, and characters banging each other. Why else did Mora and Ambar’s chest size increase so much over the last couple of years? Simple fanservice being shoehorned into every damn page corner. Just to give some loser twats their fap/daydream of the day. I can’t even call this a relationship between Rachel and Miles, I simply can’t. It goes beyond me how Rachel first appears hesistant and critical, but now does a complete 180 degrees turn on what she said earlier. How she just accepts this loser while she is definitely worth MUCH MORE than a guy who goes as far as jump onto the first chick to hump her all night long. What if Miles bumps into another good-looking cat gal? I don’t think he’s the type to stay around, but rather follows his petty urges and unrealistic wishes. Such a person is no good for a stable relationship. I really expected better from Chalo, but this page seems like it was drawn by a guy who actually never had a healthy and mature relationship with a girl himself, or rather, even normally talked to a real girl on a mature level. So stereotypical of webcomics drawn by men. Oh well, the moment I saw a female cat-like character being introduced in this comic, I knew she would end up with that sad excuse Miles. I’m deeply disappointed. If I’d ever considered supporting this comic, I certainly won’t anymore now.

    • Gio Gonzalez

I’ve been called a sexist for my views and art, but I totally agree with you on everything you’ve just said, kudos.

    • Joshua Stewart

      *Stands up and applauds*

    • Al

To be fair though, Chalo only draws the comic, he doesn’t write it. Blame him for the tiresome fanservice, but SoulKat is to blame for this writing. Thank goodness this was his last page as writer.

      • Joshua Stewart

Wait wait wait..THIS was his last page as a writer? Not the next 20 or so? Can.. can we celebrate? This comic might actually get good if his filth isn’t constantly touching it.

        • Al

Too little, too late, if you ask me, and the remaining writer isn’t that much better.

    • you put a lot of my negative views about these two into cohesive words. I really do read this comic mostly for Rachael and this is… not surprising, but very disheartening.

  • Tornado Fisk

Man, it’s like people were completely blind to the developments between Rach and Miles up to this point they clearly dig each other on a few levels,
besides you could tell by her attitude through this whole scenario that She didn’t Hate him and given the way this played out in the end including the ultimatum and the kiss after it was resolved i feel like the Characters involved were Very consistent, Especially Rach given her sly composure the entire way through it was obvious she Does care about Miles especially since by her very character it’d be clear that being so blunt was an expression of endearment towards someone she’d considered Worth helping even if it did involve shattering their current perceptions of themselves and the way they treat people.

(P.S.:to any and all Grammar-Nazis/Cops/Crusaders, and etc. Before you try to get on my case about my grammar for capitalizing certain words for no reason Please preemptively Gargle a Lemon with Mint, I type like I talk putting emphasis on certain words, displayed in text form by capitalization))

    • Al

No one said the previous pages were her hating on him. We’re pointing out that making a massive leap from semi-reluctant friendship to tender smooches is unrealistic and inconsistent.

    • Gio Gonzalez

Hey, Chris Chan does that too.

    • Gokudomatic

Well said. It’s as if those 3 haters were caught by surprise and couldn’t accept it. And even when we mention the tsundere genre, which Rachael isn’t but she’s a similar kind of character, they don’t get the hint that love can take many forms. And sometimes it’s not obvious, especially when we can’t read their mind. If Rachael really hated Miles, she would have been much colder with him.

  • Boltwrench

The real question is how long ’till they bang.

    • Al

Knowing this comic, either they’ll do it immediately upon returning home, or she’ll want to wait and he’ll start pressuring her into it until she either gives in or causes him to throw another shitfit about how he owes her sex because she’s dating him, and we’ll be intended to see him in a positive light for it.

  • Shadow Trepadon

ok just going to be honest here, Called it! did i type it down and post it on this site,no but i did predict it and to everyone who thinks this shouldn’t of happened what would you of preferred him continuing to have zero reasons to stay at lass lindas but sticking around anyway or him having an actual bloody good reason to stay i will let you decide

    • Gio Gonzalez

Well, let’s weigh the reasons he had for LEAVING Las Lindas:

      1. When he found that abandoned airplane, Miles was stricken with inspiration and a new goal to reach to go out and explore the world and have WACKY adventures all over, and again, there was a huge emphasis that Miles was sure this was destiny calling upon him.

      2. He sucked at his job, and he hated it, he hated his Cow boss as well, I don’t remember who mentioned it but they even said Miles’ little area of farming had the lowest productivity in the whole farm, and again, it was a little tiny working area! Pretty sure Las Lindas would do fine if he suddenly left.

      3. The nymphomaniac lizard he plowed, offered ALL the freedom he wanted, and more sex than he could even handle, which must’ve felt like hitting the mother lode after Taffy cock-blocked him.

And, what were the reasons for Miles staying in Las Lindas again? Oh, a girl that had shown ZERO interest in him, whom he has NOTHING in common, because the only person (Sarah) she ever manipulated was out of actual caring for her well-being, but yeah, after all this let’s have Miles stay in a place he hates and is incompetent working at, and let’s ruin Rachael’s life while we’re at it, heh, I just remembered that Mora put Rach to work with Miles as a punishment for kissing Minos, I gotta say that it’s a fun idea to consider working with Miles a punishment, and even more so that he managed to get his hands on poor Rach, Mora is a real cruel cow lady.

      • Shadow Trepadon

but look at it like I intended you to, he made a choice about it! he chose to stay yes which is arguably the wrong choice but he made it now he loses the right to bitch about it knowing him he probably will have a few remarks about hating it but you wanna know when i predicted this would happen, i predicted this back at their first visit to the coliseum I the blind to romantic type things guy saw this coming from back then and it was from the both of them not just miles trying to get some but an actual kindling of romance and yes sure i said so myself i’m generally pretty blind to this stuff but when i see it it is usually true (only once or twice did i get it wrong)

        • Gio Gonzalez

Well, now it’s a good choice since Miles IMMEDIATELY got the reward he was looking for without even making the slightest bit of actual effort, like, the only thing he did was decide to stay instead of leaving with Geecku, that’s it, he didn’t have to do ANYTHING to improve his work output nor his attitude.

Anyway, if your whole point is bragging how you predicted this train wreck to end, well, congrats, maybe they’ll hire you now that SoulKat is retiring, who knows.

          • Shadow Trepadon

dear god dammit that predicting it thing was purely a side not to act as a sort of driving home of the this is him making his choice that would eventually need to happen that was not me bragging, trust me when i say if i’m bragging anyone with half a brain cell will know this isn’t me bragging it’s me saying that he now has no real reason to be a pain to read and also me work there? only in my wildest dreams but sure let’s just say that i’m bragging and leave it at that shal we

          • Gio Gonzalez

I didn’t understand what you just typed, dude, only that you weren’t bragging.

        • Al

No, it was just on Miles’ end. Rachael not beating the shit out of him or something when he took her out that first time (aside from that forced-as-fuck moment where she apparently punched him for saying he respects her) =/= falling in love with him.

  • Vince

    Wait… what?!

    • Al

This sums up the reaction everyone should be having.

    • Gio Gonzalez

      Welcome to the Twilight Zone.

  • Winner

Once again, the worst romantic comedy writer goes to Chalo! Give yourself a hand there buddy, you make Rachel into a pretentious bitch and you make Miles into nothing but a horn dog. BUT FOR SOME REASON. SOME WAY. SOME POSSIBLE FUCKING WAY BY THE WAY. They basically start dating.

    • Joshua Stewart

To be fair, this was Soul Kats sack of crap.

  • Phasperous

While I didn’t pick up on the subtle body language (which is something odd for me as that’s how I read and understand people in real life), I do want to remind people that tone of voice and all emotion is lost in text. Whether it is here in a comic, in a Skype, Discord, Telegram (and so on) conversation, or anything else where you talk to someone via text based messaging.

And I think because of this it was lost to so many people. Not saying this is good or bad, but it’s obvious based on what I am reading. The uncertainty, concern, and possible upset/anger. I think this is created from the lack of emotional conveying between Rach and even Miles, due to the lack of being able to hear it in their voices because it’s conveyed via text.

While it could have possibly been done better, I do appreciate the effort that was given in the last series of pages. It’s always hard to represent emotion or tone of voice via text, and when it is commonly done. It’s very over the top or even sappy. Which is never good really (unless the characters are well known to do so, or it’s sort of a scene based thing and not part of the entire comic.

    @Chalo,
You did right by my eyes with what you could do. So I give props to you. *slow claps*

Was hoping both of them would come around, and not so much as a pair or lovers, but as individual characters. Really glad they did.

Now just just see if they can top Mora and Minos is creating earthquakes in bed. xD

  • Jshadow

People who are using the “Don’t watch if you don’t like” card to try and shut down the argument, trying to defend this abomination of a storytelling, here’s a counter argument:

“There are other reasons for watching something other than enjoyment. In this case the reason is the combination of intellectual curiosity and the desire to get this off of my chest.”

    • Gio Gonzalez

I keep telling them that as a writer myself, this is a perfectly good example of the things you should never do in a story, however, I’m pretty much convinced I can’t make a worst story than this even if I tried, but I’m just gonna hang around here because of the comments because it’s probably the most entertaining thing in this page.

      • Jshadow

I’m baffled that there are some people who ACTUALLY consider this GOOD?!?!?!?! writing and are trying to make excuses to people who actually are critically thinking.
Honestly with the amount of urgency this comic has, it would be just find if the comic ended HERE and Chalo just goes and draw pornography.
I won’t lie, I’d like to join his creative team just so I can raise some hell and all the “characters” get called out on all the BS they’ve done over the series.

        • Gio Gonzalez

Well, here’s my list of favorite (and failed) attempts to defend this webcomic in no particular order:

#1 We didn’t understand what the writers and artist were trying to do (also known as the Zack Snyder Maneuver and is currently highlighted as top comment).
#2 You aren’t allowed to complain about something that’s free (remember that next time you get food poisoning from sampling it at Costco).
#3 You aren’t allowed to complain if you can’t do better than what you’re complaining about.
#4 If you can’t say something nice, don’t say it.

In case you’re wondering why I find the comment section so amusing.

          • Al

Another favourite of mine is the classic “This is a common anime trope” defense, as if it’s a good thing for the comic to be written like a shitty throwaway harem anime and have such things as your only frame of reference for how relationships and interaction between men and women work, invalidating Rachael’s words and feelings because they in hindsight somehow see “I’m crazily in love with Miles” written on her every facial expression and are now accusing us of not noticing the “obvious clues”.

          • Gio Gonzalez

Isn’t that Zack Snyder’s Maneuver as well? Trying to convince us that there’s BRILLIANCE in writing carefully CONCEALED underneath all this apparent mess, kinda reminds me of The Emperor’s New Clothes fairy tale or something xD

  • Shadowkey392

    YYYAYYYYYY! *happy clapping*

  • Phasperous

So for whatever reason, I posted a comment and it was detected as spam.

It was actually really thought out and my positive take on these two so far. Rather annoyed that it was seen as spam.

That something that the comic artist dictates and reports? I hope not… >_<

    • Jshadow

Considering there are people who are defending this poor exceuse of a good writing, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did report you.

      • Phasperous

Which if the case, is disgusting and playing dirty.
Though I bet those who did report me didn’t bother to read the full post I wrote, because I actually gave my thoughts from both sides of the fence (which many think is impossible and they don’t get that it’s a very open minded way of looking at things).

I plan on reposting what I wrote because it wasn’t “attacking” anyone and (i thought) was rather constructive.

  • Tyko Lobano

i honestly thought she was about to friend-zone the poor bastard.

    • Al

She did, several pages ago, before this came along and mooted that.

    • Joshua Stewart

‘friend-Zone that ‘Stupid’ bastard.’ There, fixed it for you.

And yeah, we all thought she was gonna, but then her personality changes so hard it left anyone with actual reading and analytical skills with whiplash cause.. gotta make Soul Kat happy with his insert and Waifu.

  • Phasperous

Because it seems that people false reported my comment on grounds that they didn’t like having a open minded person give constructive criticism. Here is my post.

While I didn’t pick up on the subtle body language (which is something odd for me as that’s how I read and understand people in real life), I do want to remind people that tone of voice and all emotion is lost in text. Whether it is here in a comic, in a Skype, Discord,

And I think because of this it was lost to so many people. Not saying this is good or bad, but it’s obvious based on what I am reading. The uncertainty, concern, and possible upset/anger. I think this is created from the lack of emotionalconveying between Rach and even Miles, due to the lack of being able tohear it in their voices because it’s conveyed via text.

While it could have possibly been done better, I do appreciate the effort that was given in the last series of pages. @Chalo,
You did right by my eyes with what you could do. So I give props to you. *slow claps*

Was hoping both of them would come around, and not so much as a pair or lovers, but as individual characters. Really glad they did.

    • Al

Yeah, no, it’s really nothing but bad, rushed writing, not “We couldn’t hear the tone of pure adoration in her voice because it’s text-only”.

      • Phasperous

And that’s your opinion. Just like my post is my opinion.

And everyone is allowed to have their own. *shrugs*

  • iamme

The thing people are forgetting about is that they are meant to be based on real people with real relationships and people don’t always make sense in relationships.

    • Al

They make a fuckton more sense than this.
