seriously? “sugar cub”? I understand getting the inspiration from Applejack for Ann’s character, but that was like takin’ from “cute” to plain unoriginal. though I know everyone else is gonna be like “oh mah gah, it’s like sugarcube cuz Applejack cuz My Little Pony, she’s so cute and I love her accent and yada yadaaa.” sheesh. I hope she realizes what a douche Davin is soon, learns a lesson and gets her life together. she’s just such a dittz right now. other than that, I really like the colors on this page, especially the for the first panel, and the outfit you chose for Tiggs.

It’s not just like sugar cube cuz Applejack. Ann’s been talking like a southern belle since 2008, mang, and sugar cube and sweetheart, and even y’all’s been around since way before either of the two. Might wanna do your homework next time. Just sayin’.

  Yes, it IS just like sugar cube because Applejack; Ann never used that term before. Duh, I’m aware that Ann has always talked like a southerner and I’m aware that y’all has been around longer than either of the two, but since MLP:FIM came to existence, Ann started using terms like “horseapples” and now “sugar cub” and other readers even pointed out she sounds like Applejack now. Maybe next time you should pay a little more attention to what you’re reading. Juuust saying.

  Nah, he’s got a point there. I realized it after I’d posted it just what he was getting at with the sugarcube thing. It took a minute thinking about it, but sugar cube really did come from MLP, since it’s normally just sugar.

  @Link Glad you got what I was trying to get across. Everyone is getting all butt-hurt over this and drawing sources from unrelated matters to support their…apparently very sore opinions.

Gonna play devil’s advoctae here for a moment. It ain’t that bad that the artist is drawing inspiration from something they obviously like.

Also let me point out on a more valid note: appending a species specifc word after “sugar” ain’t nothing new. Or do y’all not remember Bunnie Rabbot back in the SatAM Sonic series, referring to the titular hedgehog as “Sugah Hog”? Ann’s idiosyncratic nickname for Tiggs makes perfect sense in this kind of context.

Essentially my point is thus: whilst it is somewhat evident that MLP has influenced Chalo’s decisions regardin Ann’s speech, it does not by any means detract from her character. One might even argue it contributes to it.

Seriously? This is so ridiculous.

By your logic then, Ann is also a huge rip off of Bunnie Rabbot (Sonic Satam). Since ‘sugarcube’, ‘horseapples’, and other southern styled dialogue was present in her character, which was before the development of Ann. (Yes, Bunnie actually did say horseapples, look that shiz up).

Look, has the dialogue start resembling Applejack? Yes. But where do you think Applejack recieved her dialouge? Do you really think Applejack is the original country girl? Really? Is Applejack the end all of all southern jargon? Of course not. Characters with these sayings and tendencies have been present since the beginning days of cartoon/anime mania.

So, Applejack is not original. Technically, nothing is. So please don’t waltz around here like you have a decent grasp on originality, when obviously you do not. The creator of Las Lindas might have started taking on a more Applejack-like dialogue for Ann because he doesn’t even live in the US, let alone the deep south where people do talk like that. I am actually from rural Kansas, and I find nothing wrong with the way Ann talks, if anything, it’s more accurate than her previous way of speaking.

huh, I gotta say, I agree with pendingpublication. I’ve noticed that Ann’s dialect has changed so she sounds more like Applejack rather than just some stereotypical chick from the south. I wanna see what’s up with Hope and Miles. >> I’m a little bored with the story right now.
